Whoops—We Forgot Warner

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/31/2003

Unfortunately, in our feature last week (Mar. 24) on the paperback bestsellers of 2002, we left out Warner's mass market titles. The publisher had six with sales of more than 500,000 copies, and that changes an observation we made. We noted that back in 1990, there were 123 mass market titles with sales of more than one million copies, and that in 2002, there were 107 mass markets with sales of 500,000+. The new figure for last year is 113; that includes 52 titles with sales of more than one million copies in 2002.

In order, Warner's top sellers: 1st to Die by James Patterson (1,710,323 copies sold in 2002); Violets Are Blue by James Patterson (1,605,733); Last Man Standing by David Baldacci (1,122,525); A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks (1,116,110); Envy by Sandra Brown (958,781); and The Millionaires by Brad Meltzer (780,687).
