McGraw-Hill Adds New Trade Imprint

by Joy Bean -- Publishers Weekly, 3/31/2003

McGraw-Hill Children's Publishing has created a new imprint in its children's publishing line, bringing the company's total number of children's imprints to 13. Gingham Dog Press, spearheaded by trade publisher Tracey Dils, will officially launch in May at BookExpo America in Los Angeles.

Gingham Dog will focus on publishing 32-page picture books, but is open to developing longer children's fiction in future years. Roughly 15 titles will be released this year, increasing to 20–25 next year. "We're launching a picture book line that we know will inspire literacy, and we also designed it so the books are very empowering," Dils said.

MHCP is launching its new imprint with the book Eleanor, Ellatony, Ellencake, and Me by first-time author C.M. Rubin.Eleanor is about a girl who is given many nicknames, but ultimately must find out who she is for herself. According to Dils, this book is "a great example of what I want to do with this imprint."

Dils will be working with established authors and illustrators on current and future lists, such as Angela Shelf Medearis and Pam Muñoz Ryan, and said, "I'm honored to have the opportunity to create an imprint like this.
