by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 4/14/2003

Julie Grau and Cindy Spiegel have been promoted to publishers of Penguin Group USA's Riverhead Books imprint.

Grau and Spiegel succeed Susan Petersen Kennedy, the founder of Riverhead, who is also president of Penguin. Grau and Spiegel were founding editors at Riverhead and had most recently been co-editorial directors. Kennedy said the two had been "integral to the growth and success of Riverhead."

Before joining Riverhead, Grau was an editor at Random House. Among her authors are Ellen Burstyn and Junot Diaz. Spiegel originally worked in the college division of Random House/Knopf. Among her authors are Chang-rae Lee, James McBride and ZZ Packer.
