Bookspan to Launch Conservative Book Club

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 5/26/2003

Responding to the growing interest in books with a right-of-center viewpoint, Bookspan will launch a new monthly conservative book club later this year.

The as-yet-unnamed club will be headed by new editor Brad Miner. Miner is the author of several books, including The Concise Conservative Encyclopedia and The Compleat Gentleman, which is due out later this year from the conservative publisher Spence Publishing. Miner also has a magazine and book publishing background, having been the literary editor for the National Review as well as editor-in-chief of National Review Books. He had previously worked in sales and editorial at Bantam and Harper & Row.

Bookspan CEO Markus Wilhelm said the success of a large number of conservative books published by Regnery Publishing and other houses, plus the decision by Crown and Penguin to launch conservative imprints indicates there is a growing demand for books written from that perspective.
