DK Cuts 48 Warehouse Jobs

As a result of the consolidation of Dorling Kindersley with Penguin Group USA, 48 positions are being eliminated in DK's distribution center in La Vergne, Tenn. The facility, which handles only DK products, employs about 150 people. The majority of the cuts are expected to take place by July 1, and the downsizing will be completed by December 1. According to Penguin, the integration of DK's information system with Penguin's, as well as a general upgrading of the facility's operations, made some jobs redundant. All affected employees are being provided with outplacement services and will be able to apply for positions in Penguin's East Rutherford, N.J., distribution center.
