ALA Keeping Options Open

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 6/2/2003

With reports of more SARS cases coming from Toronto, the American Library Association said it is continuing to monitor the situation. As of May 28, the association said it was still planning to go ahead with the June 19-25 convention, but said that if events warranted, it could still cancel the show. The ALA said that it will allow attendees to cancel their registration up to the day of the show, although they will be charged a $40 processing fee. Exhibitors who pull out will receive a 50% credit toward booth space for the 2004 show. To date, ALA said it had received about 1,000 cancellations, putting preregistration at 9,700. For more reaction to the newest SARS outbreak, see p. 12.
