Intervisual to Buy Tango Books

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 6/2/2003

In a deal that will unite two children's novelty book publishers, Intervisual Books Inc. has signed a letter of intent to acquire London-based Tango Books. The acquisition also includes the purchase of Sadie Fields Productions Ltd., Tango's packaging division.

Following completion of the acquisition, Sheri Safran and David Fielder will continue to run Tango from London. According to Intervisual's newly appointed executive v-p for international publishing and global packaging sales, Carol Roeder, Tango titles appropriate for the U.S. market will be published under Intervisual's publishing imprint, Piggy Toes Press, while Tango will publish Piggy Toes titles that are right for the U.K. market.

Tango currently publishes about 20 titles annually, but Roeder said Intervisual plans to raise that number to at least 30 over the next several years. Intervisual is also looking to reissue some Tango backlist titles that are out of print.
