Let's Face It

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 6/9/2003

A world where illusion is reality and vice versa—sounds like either Hollywood or the latest Dean Koontz yarn. In this case, it's both: in The Face, the horrormeister's newest tome, celebrated film star Channing Manheim has been receiving mysterious packages at his Tinseltown estate. He's evidently not ready for his closeup, however, as he never actually appears—it's his 10-year-old son who holds center stage. Bantam is supporting the novel with an aggressive print and radio ad campaign, and Koontz is doing a number of radio and TV satellite interviews, along with several Southern California bookstore appearances. Not surprisingly, the popular author was thronged with fans at BEA earlier this month. Following a May 27 pub date, the in-print total already tops 400,000.
