A 'Huck Finn' Love Story

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 6/16/2003

In an unusual expansion on a classic novel, award-winning novelist and playwright Nancy Rawles tells the story of the romantic life of Jim, the slave companion to Huck Finn on the raft in Mark Twain's unforgettable tale. Her book is called My Jim, and it explores the life of Sadie, also a slave , and her passion for Jim. Senior editor Chris Jackson at Crown bought world English rights from agent Victoria Sanders, paying six figures. Rawles's first novel, Love Like Gumbo, published by little Fjord Press, won an American Book Award and her second, Crawfish Dreams at Doubleday, was selected as a notable discovery by both Borders and Barnes & Noble. Her plays have been produced in a number of cities.
