Hillenbrand's Triple Crown

Just after the July 25 release of the much-heralded movie, Seabiscuit, Laura Hillenbrand's bestseller will mark one year on our trade paper list. That anniversary, though, tells only part of the story. Ballantine notes that the book's three editions total almost three million copies in print. The trade paperback accounts for half that tally—1,462,600 copies after 24 trips to press. The just-released mass market movie tie-in edition has more than 850,000 in print after two printings; it lands at #12 out of the gate but will move up smartly. The hardcover, published in March 2001, was on PW's charts for 20 weeks; the in-print total stands at nearly 444,000 after 25 printings.
