Kennedy Fever Burns On

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 7/21/2003

America's fascination with the Kennedy clan clearly continues unabated, as evidenced by one of today's nonfiction list newcomers—The Kennedy Curse: Why Tragedy Has Haunted America's First Family for 150 Years. Publicity hits for author Edward Klein, whose earlier books (Just Jackie: Her Private Years and All Too Human: The Love Story of Jack and Jackie Kennedy) also delved into the Kennedy mystique, have been numerous—highlights include Today, The Early Show, The View, Fox News Live, Hardball, Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, two radio satellite tours, etc. The current Vanity Fair is running the first serial as its cover story, a spot the book has also occupied in People and Parade magazines. St. Martin's, which published Klein's work on July 8, reports 250,000 copies in print. It's interesting to note that just over a year ago, another Kennedy tome—Holt's American Son: A Portrait of John F. Kennedy, Jr.—spent seven weeks on our list.
