Wiley Expands Teach Yourself Visually Line

by Jim Milliot -- Publishers Weekly, 7/21/2003

John Wiley has just launched a new line of consumer books in its Teach Yourself Visually series, capitalizing on the computer book series of the same name that Wiley began publishing with maranGraphics in 1995. The two firms are teaming up again on the new series.

Rob Maran, president of maranGraphics, said his company has been looking to diversify its publishing program while still capitalizing on the Teach Yourself Visually brand. The first three books in the new line, which shipped last week, cover guitar playing, weight training and yoga. First printings are between 25,000 and 30,000 copies for each of the three titles, which will have more than 500 photographs and be priced at $24.99. Maran said that if the new books "prove themselves in the marketplace," more titles will be developed in the consumer line.
