Those Italian Songsters

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 8/4/2003

The likes of Italian-bred crooners Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Jerry Vale, Perry Como and many others gave a whole new style to American popular song, and Mark Rotella, whose book on his Calabrian roots, Stolen Figs, has received some juicy reviews, is planning to write about them and their impact on American culture for his FSG/North Point editor, Paul Elie. The latter bought world English rights from agent Maria Massie at Witherspoon Associates in the untitled book, but it will be a while before completion, as Rotella has a full-time job as a senior editor for this magazine's Forecasts department.
