Lucasfilm Gets New Publishing Director, Imprint

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 9/1/2003

Lucasfilm Ltd. has appointed Amy Gary director of publishing for its Lucas Licensing division. Gary is replacing Lucy Wilson, who is now devoting her efforts solely to the launch of the George Lucas Books imprint. A Lucasfilm spokesperson could provide no further details on the publishing plans for the new imprint.

In her position, Gary will oversee all aspects of Lucasfilm's Star Wars publishing programs. The company currently has deals with Random House, Scholastic, DK and Dark Horse Comics. Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing, said Gary is "a publishing veteran with keen insights into both product and marketing and has the stature and savvy we need to manage a publishing franchise as big as Star Wars." There are more than 60 million copies of Star Wars books in print.

Prior to joining Lucasfilm Gary was president and cofounder of both WaterMark Inc. and Picturebook LLC. She also served as marketing director for Books-A-Million.
