Bless Her

The author of the first of this week's trade paper newbies is no stranger to national bestsellerdom. Anna Quindlen's latest book, Blessings, spent nine weeks on PW's hardcover fiction chart, and now debuts at #6 on the trade paper side. Her two previous titles enjoyed long runs on our lists—A Short Guide to a Happy Life (2000) resided on the hardcover nonfiction list for 27 weeks; Black and Blue, back in 1998, had a 29-week run in its hardcover and mass market versions. Already in its second printing (on-sale date was August 19), the Random House trade paper edition of Blessings is up to 325,000 copies in print. Following Quindlen's numerous national cable appearances this week (on CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and more), a TV movie of Blessings, starring Mary Tyler Moore, Kathleen Quinlan and Ralph Waite, will air on October 5.
