What Shelf Life?

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 9/8/2003

This week there are 10 new mass market bestsellers hitting the PW list and that may be a turnover record. Two of the new titles—John Grisham's The Runaway Jury and Dennis Lehane's Mystic River—are seeing renewed sales because of upcoming movies; Grisham's book enjoyed a 30-week run on the mass market list back in 1997. He is one of the few novelists who can count on an extended run—eight of the 10 books that fell off the chart this week had tenures of four weeks or less. The two with the longest runs were The Beach House, with 17 weeks, and The Shelters of Stone, with eight weeks.
