Fall Fiction Fiesta

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 9/29/2003

The hardcover list welcomes four new fiction bestsellers—two by veteran players and two chart first-timers. And while John Grisham's latest, Bleachers, holds on to its #1 spot, the popular The Da Vinci Code is a very close second—not surprisingly, it's the #1 title at the independents. It may be just another week or so until it reclaims the top spot. Meanwhile, it's also worth noting the substantial number of literary novels among the top 15. If you want to include the smart thriller Da Vinci, there are six other highbrow reads (the two first-timers plus The Lovely Bones, Namesake, Diary and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time).
