Weeks Rises at Bookspan

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 9/29/2003

Bookspan has moved quickly to replace Mel Parker, who resigned last week as editorial director of the book clubs, promoting Brigitte Weeks to the post of senior v-p and editor-in-chief. Weeks, who had served as editor-in-chief of Book-of-the-Month Club for five years before resigning in September 1993, joined Bookspan in May 2002 as v-p and editor-in-chief of the Crossings Book Club and also supervised the editorial staff of Black Expressions. In between her jobs at BOMC and Bookspan, Weeks was editor-in-chief of Guideposts Books and Inspirational Media.

In her new role, Weeks is responsible for all editorial activities of Bookspan's clubs. She told PW that her new job is "very different" from when she left BOMC 10 years ago, noting that the company is now "much bigger." Weeks said she sees her main role as being "an advocate for the clubs as they compete in the market." She reports to Seth Radwell, president of Bookspan's marketing and editorial group.
