New Kids' Author: Carville

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 1/19/2004

That scourge of the Republicans, bestselling author, commentator and consultant James Carville, is the latest celeb to embark on a children's book. Anne Schwartz, who has her own imprint at Atheneum Books for Young Readers, has signed the veteran Democrat to collaborate with children's author Patricia C. McKissack and illustrator David Catrow to pen Lu and the Swamp Ghost, based on an episode in the life of Carville's mother when she was growing up in rural Louisiana during the Depression. Schwartz signed for the book with Bob Barnett at Williams & Connolly, representing Carville, Elizabeth Harding at Curtis Brown for McKissack and Brian Keliher for Catrow. True to form, Carville will have his book out in plenty of time for the presidential election; it's set for September.
