Short Takes

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 2/9/2004

Dan Millman's Way of the Peaceful Warrior has been an inspirational bestseller for nearly 25 years, and now Harper San Francisco has bought a prequel, The Journeys of Socrates, in which Millman tells the life story of the mysterious gas station attendant/guru who was the original book's hero. Publisher Steve Hanselman bought it at auction from agent Candice Fuhrman for publication early next year.... Publishing veteran Tracy Brown, now agenting with Wendy Sherman, made his first sale, an auction for a book designed to inspire new adventurism in marital sex, called Erotic Intelligence, by couples therapist Esther Perel. Harper's Gail Winston was the winner, in a significant North American rights buy.... A highly successful author of paranormal romance titles, Sherrilyn Hunter, has made new deals with two publishers for seven new books: a substantial six-figure deal for five with Jennifer Enderlin at SMP, and one for two contemporary erotic novels with Lauren McKenna at Pocket. The agent is Nancy Yost at Lowenstein-Yost Associates.
