Marwell to Head HC Sales; Lennertz Promoted

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 3/1/2004

HarperCollins has reorganized the management structure of its sales operations and named Josh Marwell to head the newly unified division. Marwell, who had been senior v-p for sales for the HarperCollins adult imprints, will now be responsible for all of HC's sales efforts, including those of the children's sales division and the mass market sales unit. He will continue to report to Glenn D'Agnes, executive v-p and COO of HarperCollins.

D'Agnes said the change was made to strengthen the sales management team by putting one person in charge of the entire operation. Prior to the reorganization, George Bick and Andrea Pappenheimer had also reported to D'Agnes. No jobs are being eliminated in the restructuring and sales reps will continue to sell the same lists, said D'Agnes.

Under the restructuring, Bick has been promoted to senior v-p, sales. He will continue to oversee sales for Morrow/Avon, HarperEntertainment and the mass market channel, and will supervise field sales for the entire general books group. Nina Olmstead, v-p of national accounts, has been promoted to Marwell's old position. Pappenheimer remains head of sales for the children's book group.

In a related move in the sales department, Carl Lennertz, v-p of marketing for the HC imprints, has been named v-p of independent retailing. In the newly created post, Lennertz will direct HC's relationship with independent book retailers and will also oversee the telephone sales team.
