Candlewick Tests Audio Waters

Massachusetts-based publisher Candlewick Press makes its first foray into the audio arena with five Candlewick Audio titles set for publication in May. The new line was produced in collaboration with Candlewick's sister company in London, Walker Books, and consists of CD recordings of some of the companies' top-selling picture books. Each hour-long CD includes a dramatic reading of the text, learning and participatory games, songs, sound effects and suggestions for activities. Among the initial releases are Can't You Sleep, Little Bear? by Martin Waddell, illus. by Barbara Firth, performed by Robert Lindsay and We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, illus. by Helen Oxenbury, performed by Brian Blessed and Imelda Staunton. "We've had a very good response thus far," said publicity manager Susan Hershberg. "But we want to see how this goes before we schedule any future releases."
