Listen Up, Readers

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/1/2004

Radio talk show host Sean Hannity hit the PW hardcover nonfiction bestseller chart back in September 2002 with his first book, Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty over Liberalism. By the end of that year, the book had enjoyed an 11-week run on these weekly charts and sales were close to 400,000 copies. Hannity's second bestseller, Deliver Us from Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism, lands this week in the #2 spot (as did Let Freedom Ring); Rodale's The South Beach Diet still commands the lead. ReganBooks went out with a 400,000-copy first printing and has already gone back to press nine more times, making 600,000 copies in print. Hannity has an especially strong fan base, as he is the host of the #1 TV debate show, Hannity & Colmes (on Fox News) and of ABC Radio's The Sean Hannity Show, which is heard on 400 stations by more than 12 million listeners. So far, he has gotten lots of media attention and has already been on Good Morning America, The Early Show, The 700 Club, Fox & Friends, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, etc. Hannity started the "Hannitization Tour 2004" on the book's February 17 laydown date with a live radio broadcast from the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, N.Y., attended by more than 1,000 people (850 books sold) and he did another live radio broadcast the next day from Borders in D.C. that drew about 1,200 people (950 books sold). The author is doing both his radio and TV shows while he's on the road and, to date, 35 events are scheduled through March 20. His Web site, www.hannity.com, lists all his appearances.
