Honoring a Father

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 3/1/2004

Sharon Robinson, daughter of baseball great Jackie Robinson, has written a picture book about her father called Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America (Scholastic), in which she gives readers insight into his life as a sportsman and civil rights pioneer. A launch party for the book was held on February 10 at the New York Historical Society. Robinson is the creator of Breaking Barriers, an in-school program developed by Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and Scholastic. Beginning this spring, she will embark on a "Breaking Barriers Tour" to promote literacy, values and baseball.
