Short Takes

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 3/8/2004

Dean Koontz has signed to do his next three books for Irwyn Applebaum at Bantam Dell, for a sum said to be into eight digits for North American rights. Trident Media Group's Robert Gottlieb made the deal. There are no titles yet, though the first book will appear this summer.... Brendan Cahill at Gotham Books signed the world's leading woman golfer, Annika Sorenstam, to write Golf Annika's Way, which will be both a how-to for men and women golfers and an illustrated survey of her career. It was a world rights deal, including audio, made with Lisa Queen at IMG World.... A book called Working It Out: Financial Fitness for Couples by CNBC's Sharon Epperson was bought by Steve Hanselman and Kathy Huck at HarperResource from Caron Knauer at her Caron K Literary Enterprises.... A second installment of the cult comic classic Get Your War On by David Rees was bought for world rights by Sean McDonald at Riverhead, from Kassie Evashevski at Brillstein-Grey in Hollywood, to be published in September; the satirical comics first appeared on the Internet, and were collected in the first book by Soft Skull Press.... A series of six chapter books for children called Otto Pillip Undercover by actress and literacy advocate Rhea Perlman was bought by Katherine Tegen at HarperCollins Children's Books; agent was Steven Malk at Writers House.
