Bowker Reorganizes Around Market Segments

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 3/8/2004

Bowker has reorganized its operating structure, forming two separate divisions that will be aimed at the publishing/retail market and the library market. Gary Aiello, formerly senior v-p of information technology, has been named v-p and general manager of the publishing/retail division, and Boe Horton, v-p of worldwide sales, has been appointed general manager of the library division.

Michael Cairns, Bowker president, said the new structure was instituted to adjust to changes in the marketplace. Bowker recognizes that "the changing needs of publishers and librarians have led to an environment in which the requirements of these two market segments are quite different," Cairns said. Under the restructuring, units reporting to Aiello will include Pubnet, Pubeasy, Simba, the ISBN/SAN agency and retail and publisher sales. Units reporting to Horton include product and management development for the library market and serials group editorial staff.
