Williams Sisters Serving for Kids

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 3/15/2004

Venus and Serena Williams are doing a pair of books for Houghton Mifflin Children's Books, one on their lives and their tennis, the other on their family values, their relationship and their upbringing. The six-figure deal for world English rights was signed with Lisa Queen at IMG by Andrea Davis Pinkney, publisher of the HM division. First of the two books is Venus and Serena: Serving from the Hip, which is a mix of advice on playing the game of tennis and that of life as well, aimed at readers 10 and up. The second book, still untitled, will offer the sisters' candid views on their closeness at home and rivalry on the court and will include a discussion by their mother on how she raised them.
