AAP, BEA Headed to NYC

New York–based publishers will be doing less traveling in the coming years: both the Association of American Publishers and BookExpo America recently announced plans to hold more of their major events in that city.
Next year's AAP annual meeting will be in New York March 2 and 3. The meeting, which for many years had been held in Florida, has been held in Washington, D.C., over the past few years. Spokesperson Judy Platt said the membership wanted a change from Washington, and New York was the obvious choice. No dates have been set beyond 2005, but Platt said some rotation of cities is likely. There is, however, little likelihood the meeting will move back to Florida.
BEA spokesperson Tina Jordan said the organization "is making plans to go to New York every other year." After this year's show in Chicago, BEA will be in New York next year and in Washington in 2006. It will return to New York in 2007. Jordan said strong industry attendance, a solid book market and potential for lots of rights activity make a New York show attractive. BEA will also continue to make stops on the West Coast and Chicago, Jordan said.
