Getting Closer

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/29/2004

The next trade fiction title below PW's top 15 is Philippa Gregory's The Queen's Fool, a Touchstone original. The author is on a seven-city tour that began on March 24 in San Francisco and ends April 7 in New York City. The publisher launched the book in mid-February with a successful promotion on its Book Club Reader E-Newsletter (which has 12,500 members), wherein the first 100 people to answer correctly a trivia question from Gregory's earlier hit, The Other Boleyn Girl, wins two copies of The Queen's Fool—one to read and one to give to a friend. Within three days they had received 250 entries, the first 100 of them in less than 24 hours. Total copies in print after six trips to press is 190,000 copies; the first printing was 80,000.
