The Secret's Out...

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 4/5/2004

Sophie Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret? is the author's first smash hardcover bestseller. Following the megasuccess of her Shopaholic trilogy—Confessions of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and last year's Shopaholic Ties the Knot—which have more than three million copies in print combined, Secret has more than 200,000 copies in print after five trips to press and debuts today at #5 on our fiction list. (It's #6 on the April 11 New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list and has already hit the USA Today list.) The book has received extensive media coverage, including People, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, Teen Vogue and an upcoming feature in USA Today. The Bantam Dell Publishing Group launched the Dial hardcover with Kinsella's first U.S. publicity tour and marketing initiatives included display kits with posters, 3-D easels, door hangers and buttons all featuring the book's whimsical cover; an extensive radio promotion campaign; and national print ads in Glamour, People, Time Out New York, the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. Kinsella's currently traveling in the States to meet booksellers and fans, who'll be happy to learn there's another Shop-aholic on the way—Shopaholic & Sister is set to hit the stores (in more ways than one) in October.
