School Dons Author's Name

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 4/5/2004

West Elementary School in Chickasha, Okla., has been renamed the Bill Wallace Early Childhood Center in a dedication ceremony that took place on March 28. Wallace, the author of 34 books, almost all aimed at middle-grade readers, including the forthcoming No Dogs Allowed! (Holiday House, June), attended West Elementary as a child. He then taught in the district for seven years and returned to serve as the school's principal for 10 years. His books have won scores of state awards, among them the Nebraska Golden Sower Award, the Oklahoma Sequoyah Children's Book Award and the Texas Bluebonnet Award.
