A Crazy Kind of Event

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 4/5/2004

It was a case of love at first sight when Jennifer Case, the deputy director of the San Diego Children's Museum, saw Barney Saltzberg's picture book Crazy Hair Day (Candlewick, 2003). To help get the word out about the book, Case organized a series of city-wide events involving 350 volunteers who read the book at schools, libraries and businesses all over the city. California's lieutenant governor even proclaimed this past March 10 Crazy Hair Day in San Diego. The author made appearances at schools, bookstores, and businesses, where fans came out with their own interpretations of just what the day meant to them.
