English Vicar in New Kids' Deal

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 4/19/2004

English vicar G.P. Taylor—whose Shadowmancer, a historical thriller for children, is a big bestseller in the U.K.—has signed for two more books with his publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, to add to the three already contracted for. Nancy Paulsen at Putnam negotiated the deal for the Penguin Young Readers Group here, and Suzy Jenvey and Tara Hiatt signed at Faber in London, all dealing directly this time with the author. The arrangement calls for a new hardcover to be published each year in both countries, beginning next year; next up is another suspense story called Wormwood. Taylor arrives here next month for a book tour for Shadowmancer, which has already gone back to press twice before its publication here by Penguin in late April. He's had a strange career, being in turn a rock musician, a policeman and currently a vicar in Yorkshire—as well as, of course, a highly successful author.
