Remembering the Caddy

John Feinstein, whose previous national bestsellers about golfing—A Good Walk Spoiled, The Majors, Open—spent a total of 33 weeks on PW's charts, returns with Caddy for Life: The Bruce Edwards Story, which chronicles the nearly 30-year partnership between professional caddy Edwards and legendary golfer Tom Watson. Published by Little, Brown on April 6, the book has 180,000 copies in print. Media kicked off with Imus in the Morning on April 9, followed by Feinstein's appearances on the Golf Channel and CNN during the weekend from the Masters at Augusta National. Feinstein did a TV satellite tour on April 16, to be followed this coming week with a radio satellite tour and a Today gig on the 28th. Sadly, Bruce Edwards, who last year was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), died Thursday, April 8, one day after receiving the prestigious Ben Hogan Award for Courage from the Golf Writers Association of America. Many newspapers and national news programs covered his death throughout their Masters reportage. Feinstein will continue to honor his friend's memory in forthcoming interviews and has announced he will split the proceeds from the book with the Edwards family.
