Big Buy of Walters Memoir

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 4/26/2004

Miramax reportedly paid veteran (and just retired) TV interviewer Barbara Walters a sum between $4 million and $5 million for a memoir that will talk about her personal and professional life and offer dozens of anecdotes about the famous people she has met and interviewed over more than 40 years with ABC-TV. It was a deal for world English rights, signed by editor Susan Mercandelli (along with Miramax's Steve Hutensky and Charles Layton) with agent Mort Janklow at Janklow & Nesbit. There were several interested publishers, but Walters isn't hurrying; the book will be published three years from now.
