Holtzbrinck Wins Roaring Brook

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 5/3/2004

Holtzbrinck Publishers fought off a bid by Random House to acquire Roaring Brook Press. The Bridgeport, Conn., court overseeing the bankruptcy of Roaring Brook's parent, Millbrook Press, approved the deal last week, and the final closing was set for April 30.

Assuming no last-minute complications, Roaring Brook will become a division of Holtzbrinck. Publisher Simon Boughton will report to Henry Holt president John Sterling, and Roaring Brook will use Holt's services as needed. Boughton said Roaring Brook's fall list of 13 titles is ready to be shipped. "Everything's in place and we're ready to go," he said.
