Houghton to Offer Book on Roth

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 5/10/2004

A biography of a man who has been considerably less written about, novelist Philip Roth, has just been signed by his regular publisher, Houghton Mifflin. The author is Ross Miller, currently a Guggenheim Fellow, who was recently tapped to edit the complete works of Roth for the Library of America, and who is a professor of English at the University of Connecticut. He has been promised complete access to all Roth's papers and correspondence, as well as to the novelist's friends and family, so the book will be, said HM publisher Janet Silver, who signed it directly with the author, "the definitive Roth biography." Meanwhile, the publisher is bringing out Miller's book on Jewish immigration to America, Free at Last, in 2006.
