It's Coben Time

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 5/10/2004

Harlan Coben's Just One Look makes it to the #4 spot on PW's fiction hardcover list, a very impressive feat considering the high-rolling books ahead of him (The Da Vinci Code, The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Left Behind's Glorious Appearing). Dutton's first printing was 210,000 copies, and it has already gone back for a second printing of 3,000 copies for the April 27 release. Coben is just finishing a 10-city tour. His publishers, Dutton and NAL, did an unusual book/author promo for Coban's previous bestseller (five weeks on our hardcover lists in 2003), No Second Chance—a sampler distributed last month at Loews movie theaters in New York, New Jersey, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. The 96-page sampler had excerpts from both No Second Chance and Just One Look; about 350,000 copies were given away in the five markets. There were also posters at the theaters (a total of 32 locations), as well as pre-movie slide advertising at Loews theaters nationally. The publishers estimate that these garnered about nine million impressions.
