Hersh Signs for Abu Ghraib Book

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 6/7/2004

Pulitzer Prize–winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, whose New Yorker articles about the prison abuses in Iraq did the most to bring the story and its implications to light, has signed with HarperCollins to do a book, Chain of Command, that will both expand on the articles and offer new material. The world rights deal was signed by the house's CEO, Jane Friedman, with agent Esther Newberg at ICM, and the book will be edited by executive editor David Hirshey for publication this fall. Hirshey has long been after Hersh for a book, but says the reporter had been too involved with his magazine pieces; now, however, he is keen to do a book that may impact the coming presidential election.
