Pope's Latest to Warner

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 6/14/2004

Warner Books, in the person of president and COO Maureen Egen, signed for U.S. translation rights of the new book by ailing and elderly Pope John Paul II, published by Mondadori in Italy last month. It's called Rise, Let Us Be on Our Way, and Egen made the buy from Mort Janklow at Janklow & Nesbit. It tells of the pope's early years as a bishop and later archbishop in Krakow, Poland, his struggles with the Communist Party and his eventual election 26 years ago as the first Polish pope. The pope's last memoir, Crossing the Threshold of Hope, was a big bestseller for Doubleday and around the world 10 years ago.
