A Bach Concerto

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 6/28/2004

Back on January 12, David Bach's The Automatic Millionaire began a 13-week run on PW's bestseller chart, falling off in early April. A one-hour Oprah appearance right after Christmas 2003 was one of many national shows that originally put the book on the list, and a June 15 re-airing was enough to get it back there (it's #7 on our hardcover chart this week). Subsequent appearances on CNN American Morning and a June 21 interview on Today should keep the sales spike going. An earlier Bach book, Smart Couples Finish Rich, could also get a sales boost when Oprah re-broadcasts in late July a segment on "Millionaire Couples" with Bach that originally aired this past April. Back in January, we reported that Automatic Millionaire went back to press four times before its December 23, 2003, publication date; those printings added up to 217,000 copies. Now, Broadway reports more than 740,000 copies in print after nine trips to press. No wonder expectations are high for Bach's next book, Start Late, Finish Rich, which will be published in January 2005.
