Big New Deal for Burroughs

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 7/5/2004

Augusten Burroughs's bizarre memoir Running with Scissors turned out to be one of the surprise bestsellers of 2002, and its success, and that of his subsequent Dry, were such that his St. Martin's editor, Jennifer Enderlin, has now made a major seven-figure investment in a further three books by the highly talented and eccentric author. They will consist of a collection of essays, a book of Christmas stories and a third book yet to be decided on, with publication to start in early 2006; meanwhile, Burroughs's collection of true stories, Magical Thinking, is due in October. Enderlin made the new deal, for world rights and audio, with agent Christopher Schelling at the Ralph Vicinanza agency.
