A Stepanek Tribute

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 7/5/2004

Many national shows paid tribute to Mattie Stepanek, the child poet whose inspirational verse made him a bestselling writer and a prominent voice for muscular dystrophy. He died June 22 at the age of 13, and many national shows—including Larry King Live, Good Morning America and Today—covered his funeral and career. All five of his books of poetry began showing up on the bestseller charts (five were among the top 25 at Barnes & Noble). Hyperion Books reports close to one million copies in print of the five titles: Heartsongs, Journey Through Heartsongs, Hope Through Heartsongs, Celebrating Through Heartsongs and Loving Through Heartsongs.
