A High-Diving Debut

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 7/12/2004

Robert Kurson's debut, Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of World War II, is looking like the adventure book of the year. Critics and booksellers have used superlatives in describing the book, published June 28, and media coverage has been very impressive. Shadow Divers was one of the books that garnered a lot of attention at BEA and Random House is anticipating a successful 12-city bookstore tour, which began on July 12 and will continue through August 5. Total copies in print after three trips to press: 210,000. Fox 2000 optioned movie rights for $1.5 million, beating out three other major studios.
