by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 7/19/2004
The NEA’s “Reading at Risk” report provides a snapshot of the popularity
of various fiction categories. Just over 12% of adults read poetry in 2002,
while 3.6% read plays. About 9% of adults listened to a spoken-word
audiobook in 2002. Some 7% of adults did creative writing in 2002, with 1%, or
two million people, reporting that they had had a work published.
