Engstrom to Head Elsevier

Erstwhile Random House rising star Erik Engstrom has been appointed CEO of Elsevier, the science and medical publishing division of Reed Elsevier, parent company of PW. Engstrom will join Elsevier in August and will be based in Amsterdam. He will report to Reed Elsevier CEO Crispin Davis.
Early in his career, Engstrom had been president and CEO of Bantam Doubleday Dell and, following the acquisition of Random House by BDD parent company Bertelsmann, he rose to president and COO of that company. Engstrom left in February 2001 to join the private equity firm General Atlantic Partners.
