FSG to Distribute Comix

by Calvin Reid -- Publishers Weekly, 7/26/2004

Farrar, Straus & Giroux has agreed to take over the U.S. bookstore distribution of Montreal-based graphic novel publisher Drawn & Quarterly, a move that brings together a venerable house and an acclaimed comics publisher.

Spenser Lee, senior v-p and director of sales at FSG, acknowledged that this is new ground for FSG, but said the two houses share "similar publishing values. I think we both focus on individual books and authors. We think we can sell their books like we would any regular FSG title."

Currently, D&Q books are distributed to the U.S. bookstore market by Chronicle, which will continue to distribute D&Q titles through the end of 2004. FSG will begin taking orders in December and will ship in February.

D&Q will continue to be distributed in Canada by Raincoast Books and in the U.K. by Turnaround Publishing.
