It may be a stretch to think about autumn when the scent of sunscreen and the snap of flip-flops are still in the air, but the new--and hardy--harvest of spoken-word audio titles is fast on its way to market. This season offers plenty of food for thought during the run-up to the presidential election, with titles by folks from both sides of the political spectrum, including Ann Coulter, Cornel West,Maureen Dowd and Gen. Tommy R. Franks. Other heavy hitters include Pope John Paul II, Tom Wolfe, T. Jefferson Parker, Ken Follett, Gish Jen, Alexander McCall Smith, Stephen King, Anne Rule, Queer Eye 's Carson Kressley, and martial arts whiz Chuck Norris. On the children's front, you'll find spoken-word, music and video titles from a roster that boasts Lemony Snicket, Zizou Corder, the Wiggles, Polly Horvath and co-authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pears on. You'll also find a feature highlighting foreign-language audio programs--which ones are selling, and which ones booksellers like to recommend.
