Hot Summer Reads

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 8/23/2004

While Assassin is the only new title on the charts, several others are right below the #15 level and doing very well. At #16 is Karen Marie Moning's hardcover debut, The Immortal Highlander (an earlier mass market, The Dark Highlander, got a PW starred review). Delacorte reports 60,000 copies in print after two trips to press. At #17 is Amagansett, a debut novel by Mark Mills with the perfect seasonal setting. Putnam published the book in early August with a 26,000-copy printing and has gone back to press two more times, bringing the total to 37,000 copies. The book has drawn pre-publication buzz internationally, with sales in many countries—the U.K., Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Spain, Greece, Thailand and Latvia. The pre-publicity push included book giveaways on the Hampton Jitney, with a personal letter from Putnam/Dutton president Carole Baron.
