A Namesake Keepsake

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 8/23/2004

New on the trade paperback list is Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake, with 250,000 copies in print in Houghton Mifflin's Mariner imprint. The publisher has produced a mixed floor display with copies of the author's debut book, Interpreter of Maladies (it has sold more than 750,000 copies to date). The publisher notes that Lahiri is by far its most frequently requested author for readings, lectures and college appearances. However, since she is expecting her second child and isn't able to travel much, the house produced a video to help bring her virtually into living rooms and classrooms nationwide.
